In the midst of art

Vienna's lively gallery scene has one of its centres very near to the Riemergasse. Just turn two corners and you'll find yourself at the Seilerstätte, one of Vienna's gallery rows with contemporary art ranging from international blue-chip to the works of young shooting stars.

Making its home at No.16 is Galerie Krinzinger, one of the most internationally renowned galleries in all of Vienna. Erwin Wurm, in the process of embarking on a brilliant career with Vienna as his base, and Germany's young star, Jonathan Meese, are as much a part of this gallery's programme as Viennese Actionists Otto Muehl and Rudolf Schwarzkogler.

Right next to it, on the same floor, the Galerie Lang is dedicated to young, talented Austrian painters.  At the same time, the gallery features an extensive collection of sketches by Austrian artists such as Jürgen Messensee, Karl Anton Fleck; Adolf Frohner and Hans Staudacher.

Diagonally across the street at No. 15 Seilerstätte we find yet another major Viennese gallery, Galerie Heike Curtze. Christian Ludwig Attersee, Günter Brus and Hermann Nitsch are amongst the artists whose works are now also regularly on display at the gallery's branch in Berlin.

The gallery of Lukas Feichtner is still relatively new, with its big display window at No. 19 Seilerstätte immediately catching your eye. Similarly attention-getting is the gallery's program: young art, primarily from Austria. The large-format paintings by Martin Schnur and Eva Wagner, the sculptures by Lorenz Estermann, photography by Stephan Reusse and drawings by Petar Mirkovic are always well worth a visit.
