Giant Ferris Wheel

How to get there: 5-minute walk from Hotel Appartements Riemergasse to the Stephansplatz, then ride the U 1 underground line to the Praterstern station (about 8 minutes).

Vienna's famous giant Ferris wheel was constructed in the Prater amusement park over 111 years ago as part of celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of Emperor Franz Joseph's ascension to the throne. The giant wheel itself weighs 244.85 tonnes, while when we also factor in all of the other iron elements, we come to a staggering 430.5 tonnes. The wheel has a diameter of 60.96 metres, while its  highest point above ground level  is 64.75 metres.
