Vienna State Opera

How to get there: just a 10-minute walk from Hotel Appartements Riemergasse,

or ride tram No. 1 or 2, getting off at the "Oper" stop.

As with almost all of the magnificent buildings which flank the Ringstrasse, the Vienna State Opera was also built after the demolition of the old city walls in 1857.
If you observe the opera house from the Ringstrasse, you will see a building in two parts.

In the rear and substantially broader section are the stage and appurtenant side rooms, while the narrower front section contains the auditorium and those adjacent rooms which are also accessible to the general public. The former Imperial Salon, today the Tea Salon, is located between the Festive Staircase and the middle loge. The Court Loge and the Tea Salon were intended exclusively for the use of the imperial court.
